2. REQUISITOS DE INSCRIPCIÓN
Inscribirse formalmente con los respectivos formularios que la organización exige:
1. Diligenciar el formulario de inscripción en la web www.vocesdeljazz.com.
2. Enviar enlace de Grabación o Material Audiovisual con dos temas de la agrupación al correo electrónico vocesdeljazz@vocesdeljazz.com.

HOMENAJE A PETRONA MARTÍNEZ
El Festival Voces del Jazz 2024 ha decidido rendir un homenaje a Petrona Martínez, la destacada cantadora de bullerengue originaria de San Cayetano, Bolívar. En este concurso, las agrupaciones participantes deben presentar en el Festival una pieza a ritmo de jazz, ya sea un arreglo o composición, en honor a esta influyente cantante.
El propósito fundamental de este homenaje es explorar desde la perspectiva del jazz las fusiones y la riqueza musical que emanan de la tradición folclórica colombiana, representada magistralmente por Petrona Martínez. La iniciativa busca fomentar la conexión entre el jazz y el bullerengue, dos expresiones musicales que, a pesar de sus orígenes diferentes, pueden converger y crear experiencias sonoras únicas.
Petrona, con su contribución significativa a la preservación de la cultura musical tradicional de Colombia, se convierte en la musa inspiradora de este evento. Su historia de vida, marcada por la sencillez y la autenticidad, sirve como catalizador para explorar las posibilidades creativas que pueden surgir al fusionar el jazz con las raíces afrocolombianas.
La decisión de incorporar elementos jazzísticos en homenaje a Petrona Martínez busca destacar la versatilidad y universalidad de la música, así como resaltar la importancia de mantener viva la tradición musical en un contexto contemporáneo. El Festival Voces del Jazz se convierte así en un escenario donde convergen la historia, la innovación y la celebración de la diversidad musical. Este homenaje es una oportunidad para que las agrupaciones exploren nuevas formas de expresión y rindan tributo a la «reina del bullerengue» desde la perspectiva única que ofrece el jazz.
NOTA: Cuando el grupo participante diligencie el formulario de Inscripción autoriza a la organización para disponer del material audiovisual y la pieza discográfica en homenaje al arreglo en homenaje a Petrona Martínez (que será grabado en vivo por la organización), para su divulgación e impresión de las diferentes piezas publicitarias que generé la realización del Concurso.
3. OBJETIVOS
El CONCURSO DE BANDAS DE JAZZ que se da en el marco del XI FESTIVAL VOCES DEL JAZZ Y DEL CARIBE conlleva el propósito de:
-Acercar más a los jóvenes al jazz y a la riqueza que tiene este género en la fusión con la Música Colombiana, del Caribe y a nivel mundial.
-Destacar nuevos talentos en el jazz representativo de nuestro país.
-Convertir la ciudad en un escenario natural para proyección de las figuras del jazz colombiano, latinoamericano, del Caribe y a nivel mundial.
3.1 CATEGORÍAS
1. MEJOR BANDA DE JAZZ, PRIMER LUGAR
2. MEJOR BANDA DE JAZZ, SEGUNDO LUGAR
3. MEJOR BANDA DE JAZZ, TERCER LUGAR
4. MEJOR ARREGLO O COMPOSICIÓN DE JAZZ
5. MEJOR SOLISTA, (Vocalista o Instrumentista)
6. MEJOR SOLISTA, (Vocalista o Instrumentista)
3.2. CARACTERÍSTICAS DE LAS AGRUPACIONES.
La banda debe estar integrada por un mínimo de tres (3) y un máximo de seis (6) músicos. No sé aceptan menores de edad.
3.3. REPERTORIO
Las bandas participantes deberán ejecutar cinco (5) obras musicales. Una de las cinco obras debe hacerle un homenaje a la contadora PETRONA MARTÍNEZ y entrará en competencia en la categoría por el *MEJOR ARREGLO O COMPOSICIÓN EN HOMENAJE A PETRONA MARTÍNEZ.
3.4. CARACTERÍSTICAS DE LAS PRESENTACIONES.
El tiempo máximo de ejecución de cada pieza musical será de hasta siete (7) minutos.
Las agrupaciones tendrán su primera presentación ante el jurado entre las fechas 25 y 27 de septiembre de 2023.
Cada noche el jurado deberá seleccionar de dos a tres bandas, las cuales se presentarán por segunda vez la noche del 27 de septiembre en LA GRAN FINAL XI FESTIVAL VOCES DEL JAZZ Y DEL CARIBE.
Si el jurado considera una banda más para la final podrá incluirla para la Gran Final.
3.5. CRITERIOS DE EVALUACIÓN Y PUNTAJE
La evaluación de la calidad técnica e interpretativa de las agrupaciones participantes se basará en los siguientes criterios
1) BALANCE INSTRUMENTAL.
2) AJUSTE RÍTMICO Y MÉTRICA
3) AFINACIÓN.
4) INTERPRETACIÓN.
5) REPERTORIO.
6) PLASTICIDAD Y EXPRESIÓN CORPORAL
3.6. ACLARACIÓN DE CONCEPTOS DE EVALUACIÓN
El balance instrumental: Las obras se evaluarán, teniendo en cuenta tanto la instrumentación del repertorio como la conformación instrumental de la banda y su vocalista (si lo tiene).
El ajuste rítmico y métrico: Precisión en el tratamiento rítmico y métrico de las obras por parte del conjunto instrumental y estabilidad de acuerdo con los cambios de tiempo propuestos en cada tema.
La afinación: Justa afinación de la banda y el vocalista en conjunto del repertorio presentado. (En caso de tener vocalista).
La interpretación: Es la capacidad de expresar los diferentes rasgos que recogen las intenciones aplicadas en las obras, plasmadas por el compositor, según sus conceptos estéticos.
El repertorio: La adecuada selección de las obras de acuerdo con el nivel técnico interpretativo de la agrupación, calidad de las instrumentaciones o versiones presentadas y eventual aporte de las piezas escogidas del repertorio de jazz.
4. JURADO CALIFICADOR Y SUS FUNCIONES
El concurso tendrá dos etapas:
1) Eliminatorias. 25 y 26 de septiembre de 2024.
2) Gran Final. 27 de septiembre de 2024.
-El jurado calificador de la Etapa Eliminatoria estará integrado por mínimo tres músicos, periodistas o personajes de las artes con reconocida idoneidad y amplios conocimientos en el jazz en el ámbito nacional e internacional. Sus fallos serán inapelables.
-El jurado calificador de la Gran Final estará integrado por mínimo tres (3) músicos, periodistas o personajes de las artes de reconocida idoneidad a nivel nacional e internacional y sus fallos serán inapelables. En este jurado podrán estar algunos de los que hicieron parte de la etapa eliminatoria.
-Calificará en uso de sus facultades las presentaciones de las bandas participantes, fundamentándose en los criterios de evaluación arriba señalados.
-El jurado calificador decidirá autónoma e individualmente los nombres de las bandas de jazz que ocupen el primer, segundo y tercer lugar; Mejor arreglo o composición, y los dos mejores solistas.
-El fallo será consignado en actas.
-No podrán declarar puestos desiertos, empates en ninguno de las categorías, no otorgar premios fuera de los establecidos en el presente reglamento.
-Dará a conocer al comité veedor casos de violación del reglamento o situaciones de soborno en su actuación como jurados.
5. VEEDURÍA Y FUNCIONES
Con el objeto de brindar garantía y transparencia, equidad, imparcialidad, participación en igualdad de condiciones y fiel cumplimiento del reglamento, se designará un comité veedor que estará para hacer respetar el presente reglamento y sancionar con descalificación en caso de incumplimiento.
6. PREMIACIÓN
Cada noche se escogen hasta tres bandas, para un total de seis bandas en la Gran Final. El jurado podrá escoger una banda más si lo considera meritorio para la Gran Final.
Las bandas finalistas concursarán por los siguientes premios:

7. CONSIDERACIONES ADICIONALES DE LA ORGANIZACIÒN
-Los grupos deben gestionar o financiar su propio transporte de la ciudad de origen hasta Cartagena.
-Los grupos participantes deberán presentarse una hora antes de su presentación en el lugar asignado por la organización.
-Los grupos desde su llegada quedarán a órdenes de la junta organizadora y comité respectivo, quedando obligados a cumplir con el programa.
-La organización facilitará y garantizará la buena calidad del montaje de sonido, tarima y luces.
-Los premios única y exclusivamente podrán ser recibidos por un delegado o representante del grupo. Su nombre debe estar registrado en el formulario de inscripción.
-La junta organizadora contará con los servicios de uno o dos profesionales de la comunicación que servirá como maestro de ceremonias y será la máxima autoridad en el escenario.
-Solo el maestro de ceremonia podrá intervenir y dar a conocer públicamente los comunicados que se requieran, así como el fallo definitivo del jurado calificador.
-Por ningún motivo se aceptará en el escenario personas diferentes a los integrantes de los grupos participantes, así sean miembros de las delegaciones, patrocinadores, acompañantes o periodistas.
-Toda observación al desarrollo del evento deberá remitirse al comité veedor, con el debido respeto que se merecen los participantes y los organizadores.
-Los mejores solistas y el tema en homenaje a PETRONA MARTÍNEZ se escogerán de las bandas que participen en la Gran Final.
-Las Eliminatorias y la Gran Final, serán en los lugares que la organización considere.
8. OBLIGACIONES DE LA ORGANIZACIÓN PARA CON LOS GRUPOS PARTICIPANTES
– Otorgar los premios estipulados en el presente reglamento de acuerdo con el fallo del jurado calificador.
– La organización facilitará y garantizará la buena calidad del montaje del sonido, tarima, luces y backline.
– La organización correrá con los gastos de hospedaje de dos (2) noches y una de las comidas diarias en el marco de la competencia.
– La organización garantizará el transporte del hotel – lugar de presentación – hotel a las bandas que se encuentren alojadas en el hotel seleccionado por la organización a partir de la llegada de la agrupación a la ciudad.
-La organización no financiará pasajes de la ciudad de origen a Cartagena y viceversa.

TRIBUTE TO PETRONA MARTÍNEZ
The 2024 Voices of Jazz Festival has decided to pay tribute to Petrona Martínez, the outstanding bullerengue singer originally from San Cayetano, Bolívar. In this contest, participating groups must present a piece to the rhythm of jazz at the Festival, whether an arrangement or composition, in honor of this influential singer.
The fundamental purpose of this tribute is to explore from the perspective of jazz the fusions and musical richness that emanate from the Colombian folk tradition, masterfully represented by Petrona Martínez. The initiative seeks to promote the connection between jazz and bullerengue, two musical expressions that, despite their different origins, can converge and create unique sound experiences.
Petrona, with her significant contribution to the preservation of Colombia’s traditional musical culture, becomes the inspiring muse of this event. Her life story, marked by simplicity and authenticity, serves as a catalyst to explore the creative possibilities that can arise when fusing jazz with Afro-Colombian roots.
The decision to incorporate jazz elements in homage to Petrona Martínez seeks to highlight the versatility and universality of music, as well as highlight the importance of keeping musical tradition alive in a contemporary context. The Voices of Jazz Festival thus becomes a stage where history, innovation and the celebration of musical diversity converge. This tribute is an opportunity for groups to explore new forms of expression and pay tribute to the «queen of bullerengue» from the unique perspective that jazz offers.
NOTE: When the participating group completes the Registration form, it authorizes the organization to have the audiovisual material and the recording piece in tribute to the arrangement in tribute to Petrona Martínez (which will be recorded live by the organization), for its dissemination and printing of the different advertising pieces that I generated during the Contest.
3. OBJECTIVES
The JAZZ BAND COMPETITION that takes place within the framework of the XI VOICES OF JAZZ AND THE CARIBBEAN FESTIVAL has the purpose of:
-Bring young people closer to jazz and the richness that this genre has in the fusion with Colombian, Caribbean and global music.
-Highlight new talents in representative jazz of our country.
-Turn the city into a natural setting for the projection of Colombian, Latin American, Caribbean and global jazz figures.
3.1 CATEGORIES

3.2. CHARACTERISTICS OF THE GROUPS.
The band must be made up of a minimum of three (3) and a maximum of six (6) musicians. I don’t know if they accept minors.
3.3. REPERTOIRE
Participating bands must perform five (5) musical works. One of the five works must pay tribute to the accountant PETRONA MARTÍNEZ and will enter the competition in the category for *BEST ARRANGEMENT OR COMPOSITION IN TRIBUTE TO PETRONA MARTÍNEZ.
3.4. CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PRESENTATIONS.
The maximum execution time of each musical piece will be up to seven (7) minutes.
The groups will have their first presentation before the jury between September 25 and 27, 2023.
Each night the jury must select two to three bands, which will perform for the second time on the night of September 27 at THE GRAND FINAL XI VOICES OF JAZZ AND THE CARIBBEAN FESTIVAL.
If the jury considers one more band for the final, it may include it for the Grand Final.
3.5. EVALUATION AND SCORING CRITERIA
The evaluation of the technical and interpretive quality of the participating groups will be based on the following criteria
1) INSTRUMENTAL BALANCE.
2) RHYTHMIC AND METRIC ADJUSTMENT
3) TUNING.
4) INTERPRETATION.
5) REPERTOIRE.
6) PLASTICITY AND BODY EXPRESSION
3.6. CLARIFICATION OF EVALUATION CONCEPTS
The instrumental balance: The works will be evaluated, taking into account both the instrumentation of the repertoire and the instrumental composition of the band and its vocalist (if any).
Rhythmic and metric adjustment: Precision in the rhythmic and metric treatment of the works by the instrumental ensemble and stability according to the time changes proposed in each theme.
Tuning: Fair tuning of the band and the vocalist as a whole of the presented repertoire. (In case you have a vocalist).
Interpretation: It is the ability to express the different features that reflect the intentions applied in the works, expressed by the composer, according to his aesthetic concepts.
The repertoire: The appropriate selection of the works according to the technical interpretive level of the group, quality of the instrumentations or versions presented and eventual contribution of the pieces chosen from the jazz repertoire.
4. QUALIFYING JURY AND ITS FUNCTIONS
The contest will have two stages:
1) Qualifiers. September 25 and 26, 2024.
2) Grand Finale. September 27, 2024.
-The qualifying jury for the Eliminatory Stage will be made up of at least three musicians, journalists or figures from the arts with recognized suitability and extensive knowledge of jazz at the national and international level. Their rulings will be final.
-The qualifying jury for the Grand Final will be made up of at least three (3) musicians, journalists or figures from the arts of recognized national and international suitability and their decisions will be final. Some of those who were part of the eliminatory stage may be on this jury.
-Using its powers, it will rate the presentations of the participating bands, based on the evaluation criteria indicated above.
-The qualifying jury will autonomously and individually decide the names of the jazz bands that occupy first, second and third place; Best arrangement or composition, and the two best soloists.
-The ruling will be recorded in the minutes.
-They may not declare vacant positions, ties in any of the categories, or award prizes outside of those established in these regulations.
-It will inform the oversight committee of cases of violation of the regulations or situations of bribery in their performance as jurors.
5. OVERSIGHT AND FUNCTIONS
In order to provide guarantee and transparency, equity, impartiality, participation on equal terms and faithful compliance with the regulations, a supervisory committee will be appointed to enforce these regulations and sanction with disqualification in case of non-compliance.
6. AWARD
Up to three bands are chosen each night, for a total of six bands in the Grand Final. The jury may choose one more band if it considers it worthy of the Grand Final.
The finalist bands will compete for the following prizes:

7. ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS OF THE ORGANIZATION
-Groups must manage or finance their own transportation from the city of origin to Cartagena.
-Participating groups must arrive one hour before their presentation at the place assigned by the organization.
-From their arrival, the groups will be under the orders of the organizing board and respective committee, and will be obliged to comply with the program.
-The organization will facilitate and guarantee the good quality of the sound, stage and lighting installation.
-Prizes may only and exclusively be received by a delegate or representative of the group. Your name must be registered on the registration form.
-The organizing board will have the services of one or two communication professionals who will serve as master of ceremonies and will be the maximum authority on stage.
-Only the master of ceremony may intervene and publicly announce the required communications, as well as the final ruling of the qualifying jury.
-For no reason will people other than the members of the participating groups be accepted on stage, whether they are members of the delegations, sponsors, companions or journalists.
-Any observation regarding the development of the event must be sent to the oversight committee, with the due respect that the participants and organizers deserve.
-The best soloists and the song in tribute to PETRONA MARTÍNEZ will be chosen from the bands that participate in the Grand Final.
-The Qualifiers and the Grand Final will be in the places that the organization considers.
8. OBLIGATIONS OF THE ORGANIZATION TOWARDS THE PARTICIPATING GROUPS
– Award the prizes stipulated in these regulations in accordance with the ruling of the qualifying jury.
– The organization will facilitate and guarantee the good quality of the installation of the sound, stage, lights and backline.
-The organization will cover the lodging expenses for two (2) nights and one of the daily meals within the framework of the competition.
-The organization will guarantee transportation from the hotel – performance venue – hotel to the bands that are staying in the hotel selected by the organization upon the group’s arrival in the city.
–The organization will not finance tickets from the city of origin to Cartagena and vice versa.
